Description
Sourcing genuine R-1787 CEM-3 PCB material is increasingly difficult — Panasonic Electric Works’ R-1787 laminate isn’t something most manufacturers keep in regular stock, since it’s a specialty grade rather than a high-volume commodity. CHNPCB fabricates single-sided R-1787 boards on request, using authentic Panasonic material rather than substitute laminates sold under the same “CEM-3” label.
What Is Panasonic R-1787 CEM-3?
R-1787 is a single-sided copper-clad CEM-3 laminate manufactured by Panasonic Electric Works. Like other CEM-3 grades, it uses a woven glass fabric surface bonded to a non-woven glass core, epoxy resin impregnated — but R-1787 is specifically formulated for applications where heat needs to move efficiently off the board.
Key material specifications:
- Thermal conductivity: 1.1 W/(m·K)
- CTI (Comparative Tracking Index): ≥600
- Copper cladding: Single-sided
The CTI ≥600 rating matters more than it might look at first glance — it’s a high tracking-resistance rating, meaning the material holds up well against surface leakage current under damp or contaminated conditions. Combined with the thermal conductivity figure, that makes R-1787 a genuinely purpose-built choice for power-carrying circuits, not just a cost-driven substitute for FR-4.
The Substrate Side (Image 2)
This shows the R-1787 base material side — no copper, just the raw laminate. The off-white, matte, non-glossy composite surface is characteristic of CEM-3 generally, but the resin formulation on R-1787 specifically is what delivers its thermal performance.
The Component Side (Image 1)
The circuit face shows copper traces, solder mask, and silkscreen (this sample marked HR-50W-06LB, a 50W LED driver layout) — a practical example of the trace density R-1787 supports for single-sided power and LED driver circuits.
Where R-1787 Is Used
Panasonic specifies R-1787 for:
- LED lighting and LED-related equipment
- Power supply applications
- Appliances
The thermal conductivity of the resin board itself helps pull heat away from the copper layer, while still keeping the processability and design flexibility that resin-based (non-metal-core) offer boards over aluminum substrate — easier to punch, drill, and route than a metal-core alternative, while still providing meaningful thermal support for the circuit.
Why Source R-1787 From CHNPCB
As a PCB company from China, we’ve found that most manufacturers who advertise “CEM-3” boards are actually using generic or unbranded laminate rather than Panasonic-sourced material — which matters when a design was specified around R-1787’s actual thermal and CTI performance. CHNPCB fabricates with genuine Panasonic R-1787 laminate, so the board you receive matches the datasheet your design was built against.

Guangzhou Mineng Electronics Co., Ltd. (CHNPCB) has been manufacturing PCBs since 2015, based in Baiyun District, Guangzhou. CHNPCB stocks and fabricates genuine Panasonic R-1787 CEM-3 material for export clients across Southeast Asia, Europe, and Australia who need thermally-rated CEM-3 boards that most manufacturers no longer carry.
